Travel Photo of the Week
Congratulations to Michael Anderson for winning this week’s travel photo of the week with his stunning take of the Tengboche Monastery. Here is what Michael had to say about the image:
“The famous Tengboche Monastery floats over heavenly clouds under the shadow of Mt Everest. The monastery has been there for centuries. I climbed this ridge to get a better view of Ama Dablam and Mount Everest which are above me to the right. After the alpengow faded from Everest, I looked back down and this scene before me was even more compelling. I flipped the camera around and got a few shots before the fast moving clouds engulfed the monastery. Climbers enroute to Everest often stop here for a blessing by the local lama before they continue on to basecamp.”
Why this Photo Won
This image has all the elements of a perfect travel image: an exotic location, great light, awesome atmospheric conditions and a perfect composition. Don’t assume that taking an image like this is easy. Once you’ve climbed what is no doubt, a challenging ridge, you still have to balance the light and climb back down under darkness.
Also worth mentioning is black.paper.press’s photo stream of the Haiti elections.
